Deborah Pipes

Deborah Pipes attended art classes at Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas. She describes her work as Expressionistic Abstraction. She paints in acrylic, draws in charcoal and black ink and produces monotypes in watercolor. At this time, she is exploring using hand-stitching and fabric in combination with ink drawings and/or acrylic paintings. She has had solo exhibitions in Kansas & Nebraska; exhibited in Los Angeles, Chicago, Laredo, Texas, Jackson, Wyoming and New York City, (plus Kansas, Nebraska), acquiring First Place Awards in International competitions in NYC & Texas. Her artwork and photography have appeared in The George Washington (University) Review, The American Literary Review, a special issue publication by Sew Somerset Magazine, Her Mark appointment book (Woman Made Gallery, Chicago). She also was awarded third place in a poetry competition at Pen & Brush Gallery, NYC. Deborah lives in Skowhegan, Maine and has a studio at her home.“My studio philosophy is there is always the necessity to avoid a habit I call the predictable formula – when an artist becomes too comfortable in a style they are successful in. I hope to avoid being identified with one medium, one style. This leads to an eclectic body of work and subjects – and failed projects or happy accidents. It is necessary to be prepared for failure – to have an attitude that allows for growth through experimentation – even at the risk of reducing one’s self to an elemental level.” – Deborah Pipes"
